Has anyone had this message before and knows how to disable it. It keeps popping up every 10 minutes or so?

root@saffron # Sep 14 11:21:08 saffron sendmail[2836]: [ID 702911 mail.alert] unable to qualify my own domain name (saffron) -- using short name

Thanks, CS

I circumvented this by changing the entry for the server in /etc/hosts like:

IP servername servername. loghost

If you're not using sendmail, you can kill it and rename /etc/rc2.d/S88sendmail to /etc/rc2.d/s88sendmail so that it doesn't start on reboot.

Hope this helps.

but if you are using sendmail you better configure a domainname eg editing /etc/hosts
ip name name.with.domain
or set Dj Macro in sendmail.cf

Best Regards, Franz
