Hi, I have a problem when I try to send an e-mail from Access 2000 using Outlook Express 6.
I can't understand why in my computer everything works properly, while, in some other computers, an error message is displayed explaining that it's not possible to open the default e-mail program: "run-time error 2287"
Anyone has a suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

Check what the default email program is.. One way is to open IE and select Options under the Tools menu. Next press the Program tab. You may also need to setup a Profile for define the Mail Server when using Outlook Xpress.

Also, if your users are on WinXP, and Office XP, there may be some issues with emails. I am investigating a package called Redemption that handles a Security issue under XP.

Hi Smedvid,
I set outlook express as the default program but I didn't solve the problem (I verified Outlook Express was the default program in IE browser->Tools->Options->Programs and in Outlook Express Tools->Options->General).

I found an article in Microsoft Support Center about a similar problem in Access 97:
ACC97: Error Message: "Microsoft Access Can't Open the Mail Session. Check Your Mail Application to Make Sure That It's Working Properly."

I tried writing the run command:
"c:\progam files\outlook express\msimn.exe" reg
but nothing happened.

Then I tried with Microsoft Windows Registry.
In regedit I found:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express
and set DLLPath to the path of Msoe.dll file in c.
Nothing happened again.
I don't really know what to do now...

mmmm.. Can u manually use Outlook Express to send mail out? I would perhaps verify this first.

Then, to confirm the issue is PC related, see if you can use another PC that has the desired configuration (Outlook Express). If the other PC works, then the issue is certainly on your PC setup. I have seen strange things like this before with other applications. Perhaps a removal and reinstall of Outlook may solve the issue.

Hi Smedvid, I verified I can send e-mail using Outlook Express. I tried to send e-mail from Access from several pc and, strange to say, in some pc it worked (a Windows 2000 and a Windows 98) and in other (with about the same configuration: Office 2000, Outlook Xpress 6)) it didn't.
So I decided to see if there is some kind of patch for Outlook or Access that solved some related problems. My last chance was to download all the Office updates from MS Office Update site. I found a new patch for Outlook and I installed it on the pc where the problem occurred...well, now it's ok, it seems to work properly!!!
I don't know which was the real problem, but now it does work :)

Glad to offer some ideas. My rule is always confirm the problem can be reproduced on another PC.
