A client of mine wants drop down menus that are semi-transparent. I want to avoid image rollovers and they don't want flash. Is there a way to make javascript drop downs that will show what is behind them, yet not be completely transparent?

Just in case that paragraph made no sense... (or if you can't read my mind from your computer) Normally drop downs are solid white with type, I need light gray with the home page images showing through.

Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

take a look at using transparent .gif's as the background for the menus... or IE has an CSS opacity attribute -gerrygerry

Therein lies the problem, I need to have them sort of 'translucent'. As far as I know, transparent gif files are completely 'clear'. It is sort of like holding wax paper infront of a brighter object, you can see a ghost of what is behind. I need to have this completely Mac-PC Netscape-IE compliant, so I can't use the opacity attribute. Thanks!

I shold have been more clear... I didn't mean that you should make an absolutly transparent .gif for the background, I'm saying that you can make one that is translucent. I'm a programmer, not a graphics expert, and I haven't dealt with photoshop for a couple of years, but I'm sure it can be done pretty easily.

If you can't figure it out, well, there's a forum for that too! :-D

Good luck! -gerrygerry
