Selecting data from notes column

Hi, I'm trying to pull out some data including some free text notes that people have typed in a notes field.

Because it's free there's all kinds of rubbish in there including carriage returns and tabs. This is then a problem for me if I ever need to import this data in to Excel because the carriage return and the tabs spread the note across several cells.

Is there a way either remove any results that have a carriage return (not a massive prob cos they are rare) or better still replace them with a space so I can keep the entire text but in one Excel cell.

Any help would be appreciated
