I have created a report based on information from 3 tables. All of the fields were selected from the SQL Database and placed on the Report where they need to be. How do I populate it?? I can't figure it out. Rob

First off, select insert field, then select one of your database fields , right click and try and browse data. if you do not see anything then it is possible you have a connectivity issue. if you are seeing information, then check the table links in the visual linking expert and 1. check the fields that you are linking are the same field type 2. try using a different join type if this doesn't work, try the process of adding a single table at a time into the report, so basically, add the first table into the report, place a field in the detail section and make sure data returns, then add each additional table and each time check to make sure that the report is still displaying data. This will tell you if you have a bad link or a bad table issue.

Did you switch to preview or hit the lightening bolt on the toolbar? That tells CR to run (populate) the report. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Sorry I'm so long getting back, I've been away from the computer for a while.

I really should have been clearer I guess. I can populate the report while I'm designing it in the preview pane, I just can't figure out how to do it at runtime.

I'm just getting into Crystal Reports. Sorry for the confusion. Rob

The Preview pane IS runtime for most users. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Thanks Ken. I need to integrate this into a VB App. I'm trying to figure out how to populate it with a select record from VB at runtime. I am populating it with a field from 3 tables (linked) by a field in all 3 tables called ClaimNo. I don't know the syntax for VB runtime. Sorry for all of the confusion.

The following FAQ will help you get better answers to your questions: faq149-237

It sounds like you are trying to pass a recorset to a report, but VB is a pretty broad area with several different integration methods, each with their own list of commands and syntax. Make sure that you have the developers edition.

There are several good general resources for VB material. Crystal comes with a developers guide, and there are several application examples on their web site. There are also several independent books that you can buy, including my own "Quick Reference". One very popular book that covers all of Crystal is the "Complete Reference" by George Peck.
