What i see from security is I can give a user rights to open a window or not. If i give a user a right to open a window say item maintenance window, they can edit the data on it. Is there any way I can give a user a right to just view a window and not edit or save? For example, i want my users to be able to see the item details in item maintenance window but not edit it. Please let me know if you have any ideas on this. I am using dynamics V 6.0 thanks

I found out from our person who gives security. If you have Advanced Security, go to the Inquiry Dropdown menu and give access through here. Do not give access through Transactions or Cards. Then the employees can to through Inquiry to view things.

If you do not have Advanced Security, choose anything with Inquiry at the end of the name (eg: Item Maintenance Inquiry) and only give then access to those.

Hope this helps.

This will help but my specific question is " Is it possible to give security to a window (could be an item/customer/ vendor maintenance window) to only view and not edit?"

Yes you can but only if the employee goes through Inquiry. If they go through Cards, etc. then no.
