Hi,
I would like to implement security on virtual directories that is not based on the NT user name or group. (or certificates) i.e. I would like the user to be asked for a password whenever they attempt to access content in these areas. We have too many users to set up NT accounts for them all, or expect them to use yet another login. A shared password used to access a particular virtual dir would suffice. Any ideas?

disable anonymous connections. Place the user name or group you wish access and add them to the operators group. If you wish them to have write etc ont his site change the NTFS permissions.(You could do this by just making a basic user account that all of them share...or I would make a group that has access and add them all to it) If you like my post let me know if I blow an answer...well it's probably late and I have had too many beers! Cheers!!

You must have misread the question :-( I do NOT wish to create NT accounts for these users. They could be coming from anywhere. I wish to protect the content with a password, not grant access to specific users, or expect them to login.

did misread the question....hmmm have to think about that one. Don't know off hand an easy way to do it. Sure their is a third party software. Anyone else know of any?? If you like my post let me know if I blow an answer...well it's probably late and I have had too many beers! Cheers!!

I had more in mind a bit of perl or similar, etc., that can be plugged into IIS!
