I have a laptop that was once on a Novell network and then a Windows 2003 SBS network. It is no longer on either network and I am logged in as a local adminstrator. I am unable to get it to install automatic updates. While the machine may have other issues, the first problem is that automatic updates are under the control of SBS 2003 Group Policy. Everything in the Auto Update section of Control Panel is greyed out and Microsoft's Baseline Security Tool says it is controlled by group policy. Any ideas on how to regain control?

Thanks,
Don

Creating a new user with full admin rights still had the domain restrictions. I was gathering up the info to search the registry per the experts-exchange.com link when it dawned on me to go to My Computer - Properties - Network ID - and reverse the process used to connect the machine to the domain in the first place. That solved the problem, sometimes the solution is to simple. Thanks for responding.
