We are evaluating some software to help lock down our network, right now we are trying some software called DeviceLock. It locks out USB, CD rom and so on but at the same time allowing us to control some of the aspects. For instance we can lock out all users from USB devices but we can create a whitelist for domain admins. It seems to be pretty nice software since it snaps into GPM. I know a lot of this can be done by using scripts but this just seems to simplify things.
My question is, has anyone used this software or something similar and what are your opinions on it? I've only been playing with GPO's for the last few months so my script writing isnt that strong mind you.
Second part is, we'd like to block instant messaging software like MSN, AOL and Yahoo. Easy enough to do at our firewall. However our company is on two floors of a building so having some sort of messaging software is necessary. I am curious if anyone has used (or could recomend) some internal messeging software. One that could send an alert (similar to Windows messaging where one could mass messege the entire network) to everyone would be a big help as well.
