I am running exchange 2000 on windows 2000.
I have not required secure password authentication in the past, but I am about to so I can protect the usernames/passwords. I will inevitably go to SSL.
I am really just trying to gain a better understanding of the built-in secure password authentication mechanism for exchange. It uses NTLM, but is this actual encryption, or a hash? In what instances would you not want to use it?
