I have a client who is concerned about losing her credit cards. In order to call her CC companies in the event of loss/theft, she'd like to keep that contact detail (including complete details of her CC #s) in some sort of secured, online "container" that could be password protected.

We can use http, https, or ssh to provide access on a linux server.

Criteria:
PASSWORD protected,
File-based,
Not reversable encryption,
Data can be entered and edited,
Data can be retrieved.

Havign trouble googling for this since I'm not sure if there's a prescribed nomenclature for this sort of thing.

I'm guessing sysadmins use this kind of thing for keeping passwords handy for those forgetful moments. That's why I'm asking here.

Dave.

It cannot be done. The requirements "Not reversable encryption" and "Data can be retrieved" are mutually exclusive. How are you going to retrieve the data if you can't reverse the encryption?

Hmmmm, good point. If I state that the retrieval of the data is contingent upon providing a respectable-length password, does that help?

I don't know of such a thing.

But it wouldn't be too hard, I think, to implement something web-based using perl, PHP or ruby.

Currently going to use 'gpg'.
Not turnkey, but sufficient.
Thanks sleipnir!
