I want to secure a single database (ex:"software list.mdb")
I've made a .mdw file and then create the following shortcut:

C:\apps\MSOffice\Office\MSACCESS.EXE "f:\software inventory\software list.mdb" /wrkgrp "f:\software inventory\softlist.mdw"

I thought that using this shortcut for this specific case should not change the current workgroup(system.mdw) for other databases. But It's not the case !

Want I'd like to do is:
- Open "Software list.mdb" with security definied in "software list.mdb"
- Open any other database with default security setting (c:\winntsystem32\system.mdw)

Thanks for helping me.

I've made a mistake. Following text is correct:

Want I'd like to do is:
- Open "Software list.mdb" with security definied in "softList.mdw"
- Open any other database with default security setting (c:\winntsystem32\system.mdw)

Hi LMichel,
Shortcut Path...Try similar to:

" \\C\Program Files\Microsoft Office 97\ Office\MSAccess.exe" /excl
/Wrkgrp "C:\YourMDW.Mdw""C:\YourMDB.Mdb"

The "excl" key word means exclusive use. You can remove it if not required, plus of course what you see here is first pointing to a 97 version of Access. You might have to play with this a bit as they are very sensitive. The quote marks are required there too. :) Gord

My shortcut works well.
What I'd like to to is to use a specific security file (.mdw) only with a specific database (.mdb)
It seems to launching access with the /wrkgrp updates the registry so that when an other database is open the default security file is not pointing to c:\winNT\system32\security.mdw

Thanks for helping me

Right. As described above, this will not update your default workgroup. Make sure before you start to use it your default workgroup is what it is supposed to be using the workgroup administrator. Your problem is that you should initiate an Application.Quit command when you close down the last form (or something) in your secured Db to completly shut down Access, not just your Db. Of course if Access is open it is still running under the "rules" of the MDW used when it was opened. :) Gord
