Does anyone have some tips on how to get a border around a particular section? I've got the borders around individual objects down pat, but could really use an easy way to outline each section. I'm using Crystal Reports XI. Thanks,

dylan

What sort of border, do you mean a line?

You might insert a box from the bottom of the previous section to the start of the subsequent section.

That's what I've been trying to do, but was hoping there was something similar to displaying an object border... something like how you can change a section background color just by turning it on- not having to draw a box and fill it in. I do just want a line as a border, but I want it to be exactly coincident with the section- without having to spend time making micro-adjustments. I wouldn't think I'm the first person to want something like this... but, hey, maybe I am. Any ideas? Thanks

Did you try what I suggested, and if so, how does it fail to meet the requirements?

Yes, as I mentioned, that is what I have been doing, but it is too finicky. I have to reproduce a report exactly, and by drawing boxes to use as borders, I just add more elements that have to be adjusted. I'm hoping for a way to create borders for the section so that they are always copmletely coincident with the edge of the section. That way, whenever I make a tiny adjustment to a section, the border is correct. Thanks again,

dylan

It shouldn't be finicky if the top goes at the bottom of the previous section, and the bottom goes at the top of the subsequent section.

Actually, I like to use the "Move to Bottom..." format property to avoid tweaking the bottom of the box.

Dylan, you make a perfectly valid point. It would be nice to have box properies for the section "object".

I agree, Ido, and forgot about the Move to Bottom, that should handle it all.

As for having properties instead of a few controls, that would be great on soooooo many things in Crystal...

I don't see the Move to Bottom option. I'm looking for it under right-click>Format_Box. I see a "extend to bottom of section when printing" though. Am I looking in the right place?

Yes, I just didn't remember the exact name of the property.

Keep in mind that if the box may span more than 1 page, you should set the "Close Border on Page Breaks" property to the desired effect.
