Our Primary DNS went down on Friday. Please how long do i have before the Secondary DNS stop taking DNS queries. Does this happen. What will i lose?.

What do I need to rebuild a primary back. Do I just install it like it was installed orginally and will there be an option to accept an already existing secondary DNS.

Also, as we really need the primary DNS, can I just build it on a small PC for now and when we get the original box back, then shut the pc down and recreate it on the box?

Please your response is urgently neded.

Thanks

Man...

first of all, if your primary DNs server just got nuked, seriously, i feel for you.

And for second, just rebuild the server with your backups of the zone files ( you kept backups, DIDN'T you? ) and activate it on the same IP as the one of the deceased server.

Depending on the type of customers you have ( lan-internal...web--public) mnost of the times, people will switch over as soon as they reconnect, or reboot their computers.

Good luck on this.

Shouldn't be a problem. Check out

Good luck and keep us in touch. Note that the secondary dns server should be on a different subnet. Is your's?
