Secondary DNS server 1

I am running NT 4.0 with SP6a. How long will a secondary dns server function with the primary offline? Thanks.

As far as I know...forever. It only uses the primary for zone transfers and such. But still...get the primary dns up asap. ________________________________________

Here's the problem, my Primary DNS server crashed. What are the steps to change my secondary zones to primary ones?

Open DNS manager and open up your secondary server. Right click on the zone that you want this server to act as the primary. Then click on properties. See zone type? Switch that to primary.
Heed the warning, and if you run into problems check out MS's site on the subject:

Prior to promoting, make sure to back up your DNS files as well (just good practice) (C:\winnt\system32\dns folder)

Make sure that the dns server is functional after promoting it.

Once promoted, you'll have to configure all other secondaries to use this one as their IP master. ________________________________________
