We had a server that we couldn't join to our domain after moving it to a new subnet. Technet said to solve it we have to do a second install of NT on it, then delete the original one. We've done all but delete the original install.

Exchange isn't part of the new install; the services don't show up in the list of services.

The server has the same name, different IP and same domain.

Any ideas on how to get Exchange back?

Hi

Normal TCP rules apply in any instance of a Exchange install. If your server cant see the rest of the domain after the install your exchange won't either.

You mentioned that you used a different subnet, maybe that's your problem. Start your troubleshooting on your network end.

From there you should be ok, if not give some more details so that we can give you a better indication as to where to start troubleshooting.

Hope this Helps

Check your WINS Manager and deleted or alter the original subnet. That should solve your problem.

Problem fixed. When the technician moved the server, he couldn't get it to authenticate. To attempt to resolve it, he deleted the machine account from the domain and re-added it.

After that, the winlogon service wouldn't start and it wouldn't join our domain. The administrator SID's were out of synch.

Microsoft recommended we do a second install of NT and delete the original instance. That synchronized the admin SID's.

Finally, we did a reinstall of Exchange from the new instance of NT. Then we deleted the blank files and copied over the old databases for mail.

Thank you for your help with this.
