Out of the blue, Gone! I go to My Computer and thet are gone. I reboot and they show up in bios and startup. I switched out IDE cable. They seem to be getting power since I also run a fan on same power, although no lights on panel. I recall a recent T-storm and thought fried IDE. What could be wrong?

What OS are you running? Both on same channel? Problem with the IDE channel showing in mangler?

OS is W2K. Under device manager only drives on IDE Primary show up. Under IDE Primay and Secondary are listed with no errors or !'s. Yes both are on same channel.

Probably time do delete the secondary and let it reinstall.

I'm assuming you have tried each device seperately? and that you have gone into the bios and set each one to "auto" detect.
I'm betting one of these devices has gone belly up otherwise you may have a faulty board.

Did the reistall of the secondary. no change. Diconnected IDE from secondary HDD and nothing on sec IDE shows up. Reconnected sec IDE and all shows up on boot up. Go into safe mode and sec IDE only shows HDD. I am starting to think it might be my registry. I can't remember the command to fix or restore. When I type regedit /fix in CMD, registry pops up normaly without fix. Where is auto detect in BIOS? Thanks for help so far.

I did check this.

If you disconnect everything from the primary IDE controller and just connect the o/s drive to the secondary IDE controller, that would establish whether the controller is working or not.

If it is, then connect the other hard drive to primary controller - set machine to boot from second hard drive (should be option to do this in bios settings). Should boot into 2k - and second drive should be visible/available. If it is, repeat with DVD drive (on its own).

Basically, need to go through process of elimination to see what's causing the problem?

As it sets now, I can see HDD, DVD on IDE 1 and other HDD on IDE 2 after disconnecting second DVD. So can I come to conclusion sec HDD is bad?

Called HP customer service. Deleteted hi and low filters in reg., no help (microsoft tek net # 314060, What ever that is, for more on how to).)Replaced DVD drive with new one works fine.
