I just programmed a new fractional PRI on a MICS 4.0 and when testing with the carrier, received second dialtone, but when they cutover the T1 the second dialtone was gone. I didn't change anything (not that there's a place for second dialtone on 4.0 that I know of) - but the carrier says that everything is programmed correctly in their switch. The tech did ask if it matters to the Norstar which channels they are programmed on for a fractional PRI...I have channels 12-23 provisioned.

Does anyone have any ideas? Would it help if they had theirs programmed on channels 0-11?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (and I may very well be) but I believe second dialtone requires MICS 6.0 or 6.1.

Is this a T1 or PRI? If its a T1 & the channels are programmed for Loop or E&M, you should get a second dialtone. I have a customer that has a PRI & they don't get a second dialtone(cant remember why), but I think you can request dialtone from your provider.

biv343 is correct 2nd dial tone was not avbl till 6.1

Incase of a T1, the dial tone is (should be)provided by the CO and not the Norstar - there is no second 'fake' dialtone
extn dial tone, t1 access code, t1 dialtone, dial number

Incase of PRI (6.1 and later)
extn dial tone, dest code, 2nd dial tone by norstar, finish dialing digits

According to our trusted gurus here in Dallas, ALL MICS systems with PRI and s/w below 6.1 should be upgraded to 6.1 or higher to prevent a host of well known, flaky PRI related issues.

you've got good gurus (and heads:) in the great state of Tejas ...

just to add, don't upgrade to just 6.1 you need to go to the latest version of 6.1 or higher. There was 3 releases of 6.1 and the first 2 had issues.
