A tape drive has been replaced in one of our european offices. The tech who did this installed the driver from the cd that came with the drive. I was able to get it started. It backed-up 53 gigs last night and is now looking for a second, continuation tape. Problem is, the job gets queued and won't change to running again.

Did you put in a second tape like it asked? If not, it will continue to wait for the second tape.

-SQLBill

Yes, a second tape has been iserted but the job won't go out of the queued state.

Check the second tape....is the write protect tab in the locked position?

Is the job set to overwrite or set to allow append (if append, is the tape appendable? - not full).

Are there any error messages? (check the alert log in Backup Exec and the Windows Event Viewer logs).

Lastly, the issue MIGHT be with the driver. Can the techician install the Veritas driver?

-SQLBill

The second tape doesn't have the write protect tab in the locked position.

the job is configured to append.

I found an error in event viewer realating to the hp drive saying '\device\tape0\ has a bad block'.

I also asked to call the local support of veritas in Germany.

My last resort is downloading the lastes driver from veritas. This is my last resource as it needs a rebort of a production file server.

Can you provide a different tape to finish the job? Based on this:
\device\tape0\ has a bad block'.
the tape might not be usable.

If that doesn't work, you may have to cancel the job (this might require you stopping and restarting the services if BE won't cancel the job), then erasing the tape with the bad block and trying again.

-SQLBill

Set the job to append and oberwrite if no appendable media can be found instead of append and cancel if none can be found. The 2nd tape is probably Overwriteable but not appendable.
