Search Utility initializes MS Office Installer

I've seen this a couple of times. I wondering what the cause is and the easiest way to fix it.

When I go to my search function in W2K it initializes the MS Office Installer even though it is already installed. It tries to install it maybe 3 or 4 times vefore I can cancel it for good. It happens everytime I try to search.

How does this happen and other than reinstall what's the best way to fix it?

If Office 2000 is installed, apply the service pack:

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/O9regfix.aspx

If Office 2000 is NOT installed, apply this hotfix:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/patch/1.0/win98/en-us/mcrepair.exe

If still no joy, completely uninstall Office 2000. Re-install in Safe Mode, making certain that no antivirus programs are running.
