Is there a way to search through your extensions via the SAT by name? Ie. if I search for Joe Blow it will come up with his ext number?

If you have ASA, you can LIST STATIONS and then sort by name. Or export the station information, and use the SEARCH command once you've opened the resulting TXT file.

Susan,

Thanks for the tip... that works -- but some of our terminals are actual SATs in weird locations without computers that have ASA or DSA near them. There isn't a way from console? That seems weird... you can do it from the phone, yet not the console...

Is this something that you need, or is it for individuals in these "weird" locations? If it's for yourself, try adding those switch(es) to your copy of ASA.

Just for those SAT terminals in weird locations...

We have a large campus, so we have "shelters" or prefabricated buildings that house our remote port cabinets. Sometimes when doing service requests, we don't know an extension -- only a name. With several thousand extensions, it's nearly impossible to scroll through on a terminal to find the right one with List Stations.

There must be a way to search...

If you have a phone with a display you can program a directory button.

I just called Avaya... they don't know either.

You can do it through Audix, but not every phone has a VM box..

When you make these service requests, do you know the cabinet number where the station is located? You can narrow things down by using list stat port nn where nn is the cabinet.

Or, if your stations follow some logical assignment (ie; building 1 = extensions 1000 to 1499, etc), then you could use the command list stat ext nnnn to nnnn.

One last thought, this may not work with as large of setup as you have. I've put in Audix subscribers for stations that I only needed to access via our dial-by-name attendant; I put these in as bulletin boards and spoke the name myself. So now I can dial those stations through Audix, but they really "don't" have a VoiceMail box.

Susan,

Thanks for the tip.

I knew of those commands already, but I did not know of the audix for the voice tree. That's a good idea, we'll have to see if we can do that in the future.

What about changing out the SAT's to cheap PC's running ASA? they can be setup pretty much the same way as a sat.
