I'm attempting to index a site using Verity. It's miserably slow, and it locks up the server. I'm working with Cold Fusion. Is Lucene faster? Are there other products I should consider?

I would much appreciate input including some links to articles I can read to better understand.

I originally attempted to make this post in the Search Engine Optimization forum, but I was redirected.
