Search and Replace - Extended

I have thousands of pages that must have their existing headers and footers replaced. The only constant I have is a comment tag <!-- BEGIN FOOTER -->blah blah blah<!-- END FOOTER -->

Would like to do a search and replace that goes something like:

replace every thing between <!-- BEGIN FOOTER --> and <!-- END FOOTER --> I know there's a piece of software called x-replace that permits this but was wondering if there was a way to get dreamweaver's search and replace function to do same.

I would use an .inc file for those. One change to the .inc file(s) and you have everything changed. Are your headers and footers template driven? Maybe you can make your .inc files and do a find and replace with those(?)

Find: <!-- BEGIN FOOTER --> and <!-- END FOOTER -->

Replace: <!-- #Include Virtual="/inc/footer.asp" -->

Hi there,
Unfortunately, there are a couple of links in the footer that change for every page. In particular, there is an english side and a french side. so we have "see french version of this page", or "see english version of this page".

Thanks for your thoughts. We've decided to use xreplace, a flexible search and replace tool but need to be used with care, as does any global search and replace.
