I want to set up a decent scripting service for around 90 users. I have not used Kixtart much (and am unsure if it works with W2K) and am a little wary of using WSH due to various viruses etc utilising WSH to trash everything in sight.

I have written some basic scripts and so have some idea but would like views and comments of anyone who has anything worthwile to say on the subject, any websites, tech articles etc.

Any suggestions appreciated

Cheers

I;ve been using Kixtart for years. It's really easy to use and is stable with lots of flexibility. I didn't know anything about writing scripts but was able to learn a great deal in a short amount of time. You can perform so many different types of scripts easily..from installing and uninstalling software, to mapping drives, to gathering information (client IP, if RAS client, does client have Mccaffe or NAV...etc)

To get you started with writing scritps:

I've used Kixtart on Win2K in a limited context. I;m not 100% sure if Kixtart is compatible with 2000. I think it is..and I know it can be installed and works on basic scripts.

Hope this helps. Joseph L. Poandl

Looks like Kixtart 2001 RC3 will work on Windows 2000. This should be fine for you. Although it is a release canidate 3, you will find that all basic commands will work. As soon as the final version comes out, you can upgrade the version without even rebooting.

You can do quite a bit with the built in batch language. You might be surprised at how powerful it really is. Check out "Windows NT Shell Scripting" by Tim Hill

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....
