Hello all...
I have a HP Pavilion 8655C pc initially running win98...I changed the hard drive on it and installed another one that had win2k ...i also took out the 64mb memory and put a 128mb in its place...i took out the cdRW drive as well and installed a CD-ROM in its place...i got a new pci sound card and a pci modem for it as well...
Well when i power up the machine, there's no beep but the screen turns on and up comes a big HP logo that stays up for about 2 to 3 secs...and then only the machine lets out a beep, the result-->a blank screen with a blinking cursor ont the upper left hand corner of the moniter...nothing else...no bios or anything...i have tried to press all the "obvious keys(DEL, F8 etc.)" hoping to get the bios up..but no luck...
after that i decided to power it up with my win2k cd...the same thing happens all over again but this time instead of the screen going blank, it says
Press any key to boot from cd.....
i have tried all the keys...nothing happens...it will not boot...and the whole process is starting to get frustrating...
...and I never get to see the bios in any case
does anybody have any ideas? i would geatly appreciate it if somebody could help me identify the problem on my machine....
thanks in advance

Ugh. First rule of upgrading/sidegrading is you only change 1 or 2 components at a time. MAX. I'd do memory/HD on the first change. Check whether it can even boot up or not. Also you forgot to run sysprep on the win2k drive. That's probably why it wont boot up. Rip out the sound/modem and reinstall Win2k.

Once 2k's on your machine, then add the CD-ROM, sound, and modem in.

Is the keyboard plugged in? Securely? Please let Tek-Tips members know if their posts were helpful.
