This is just wierd and I'm running out of ideas.

I have a user that has a Dell Optiplex PC (we have a large number of these) however on this one PC where he is the only user, the video resolution reverts back to 800x600 when he (or anyone) logs back in even though the res prior to logging out was set to 1024x768.

I've checked the registry and startups for any sort of app that would be messing with screen res (sorta like the HP Res Refresh app) and haven't found nothing.

I've d/l'ed the latest drivers, I've gone as far as to renaming the users profile and creating a new one in the hopes that the settings would stick then but I'm still having the same problem: screen res settings are dumped to 800x600 on log in.

Any ideas?

TIA

Games certainly. Screensavers can do this. For some reason user settings are not being preserved. Someone plays games at night on the computer. (It does happen).

Two approaches:

First, lets make sure the user settings are saved.

Highlight the line below and right-click, Copy:

reg add "hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\Explorer" /v NoSaveSettings /t reg_dword /d 0

Now Start, Run, and paste the line into the command box.

After a restart you should be able to save settings, as long as no Group Policy bars this.

Second, install and use MS-MVP Doug Knox's little utility to make Screen resolutions easily configurable.

See if any of these offer any clues?

A possible workaround if you haven't tried it, follow these steps:
1. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
2. Click the Advanced button.
3. Click the Adapter tab, and then click the List all modes button.
4. Select the resolution, color depth, and refresh rate that you want and click OK.
