This is a problem that I have had on 3 different computers, 3 operating systems and with at least 3 versions of PageMaker.

I don't know why, I have never had this problem with any other program.

I am currently using PageMaker 7 on a dell 8200 with a Geforce 3 200 Ti video card and Windows XP.

The problem is that the screen will not redraw automatically after many operations.

Selection boxes don't disappear, double images of type or incomplete type remains. I have to constantly press Ctrl, Shift, F12 to get the screen to redraw. These is very annoying.

Every time I get a new computer or version of PageMaker I hope that this problem will disappear.

I have asked this before and on my last computer found advice that said to reduce video acceleration.

This helped a lot. However on my present computer turning off video acceleration doesn't completely remove the problem.

I can’t be the only one who has this problem since I've had it on so many computers. In fact I ran a search and found other people having this problem but they were only asking for the redraw keys. That much I know.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Mike

The video card is a 3-d card, and that is your problem. 3D cards are optimized for gaming, not for 2-D apps such as PM.

Reducing refresh rate is the best bet, also make sure you are not "including" graphics in your doc and that you have the resolution set to normal under File>Preferences>Graphics Display. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks I knew that that was part of the problem, but I don't have a lot of choice since I also run a number of programs such as 3D Studio Max and other 3D illustration software, as well a an occasional game. In fact I’m thinking about upgrading my card again right now.

I was hoping that there was a fix, after all this doesn’t happen in any other program that I have including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, ImagReady or Acrobat.

Does anyone know what is different about PageMaker that makes this always be a problem? It doesn’t seem to be as big a resource hog as Illustrator, so why the redraw hang-up.

Vio8ion - just had a look at your sites. Very interesting. Are you said artist? Getting a thing about blues and purples

mericat,

yes, I am said artist :) I have not updated the artwork in quite some while, most of that is 6 months old or more. I shall be adding about 20 new pieces soon. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Well, very impressed. It says a great deal about who you are I think and what you stand for. I want to do some large canvas painting myself. Detail is not for me! I like Klimt and I can see some simiarities with your work. Let me know when you do.

I prefer to allow the viewers fill in the details and only hint at the. Klimt, now that is a complement! Thanx! I am working on a 36 x 60 inch canvas of my g/f... everybody that knows her is begging to see it. It is the largest canvas I have attempted so far. But I think we are taking this thread way OT. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Although I don't have this particular screen redraw problem, I think Pagemaker does a number of things a little bit differently to the other Adobe applications (e.g. setting up the locations of a PPD). It probably derives from the fact that PM started elsewhere (Aldus) and then Adobe bought them out. Whereas I believe Adobe built Ill and Photoshop from the ground up (as it were).

I agree, and I think that is why many Adobe apps do not get along with each other, or are not as integrated as one would wish. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
