Hey People....
CS 1000, 4.5
Normally I switch cores every once in a while just as a precaution but now I'm getting a failure...any ideas?

Make sure your your ethernet cable to the second core is in good shape and the network port is active.

As a test, I would replace the ethernet cable between the core and your elan switch.

Cables have been swapped out for new and the links are active...any other ideas?

You may have to split the cores after hours and hook directly to the failing core. Watch it and see if it is acting normal when it is by itself. If it is, join them and try again or CUTOVR and see if it runs the system. If it does, join them and try swapping back and forth.

Also, in LD 135, does STAT HEALTH and STAT CPU show the system as redundant?

War Eagle!!

It sure does.....but now when I just went in it shows them as syncing even though I never did anything...weird.

cp 1 16 PASS -- ENBL

SYNCING
DISK STATE = REDUNDANT
HEALTH = 24
VERSION = Jul 28 2005, 04:14:02
Side = 1, DRAM SIZE = 512 MBytes

cp 0 16 PASS -- STDBY

SYNCING
DISK STATE = REDUNDANT
HEALTH = 24
VERSION = Jul 28 2005, 04:14:02
Side = 0, DRAM SIZE = 512 MBytes

If it says that for any length of time then there is still something wrong.

War Eagle!!

OK....it's been like that for almost an hour....should I start worrying? A sync only takes about 30 to 45 minutes correct?

I wouldn't start worrying about anything going down but I would split the cores at the 1st opportunity and see what is going on.

War Eagle!!

OK.....can I split them while it says syncing?
What would be the process besides the command SPLIT and SHDW?

That's it - SPLIT. I've yet to see "SYNCING" so I can't say for sure but you'll have to try it at some point. If it doesn't work you may have to split them the old fashion way or sysload both cores together.

War Eagle!!

stat rdun.. don't stop the sync but DISK STATE = REDUNDANT
seem to imply the the are sync.. i don't see cmdu problems as much as a cpu.. 135 or 137, test cpu, test the standby side.. i would not touch that box under high traffic.. no test or split.. wait for low traffic, then test cpu and cmdu and attempt a split

Agree with johnpoole. If it were my switch, I would wait until "after hours" or a good maintenance window to work on it.

OK....thanks for all the advice guys!!
Anyone maybe have an idea of how this happened or what may have caused it?

I currently have the maint. vendor on their way out.

just a stupid yet needed question, when you do an EDD do you get any errors?

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder
