My editorial dept uses Scoop to input their stories for the newspaper. The style names are the same between the ID master and scoop, but they have certain styles (like text) set up larger point size in scoop to proofread. When the scoop article is dropped in ID, the scoop style text overrides the ID style text. Option click to clear the override does work, but would prefer to have the ID style automatically be used. Anybody know anything about how to do that?
Thanks,
Donna

Thanks, Eugene. I read your post - you're such a gracious poster. I'll see if it will work, but it's not an actual import of text as much as Scoop is a plugin and the editorial people just pull a story from the panel and drop on an ID file. Worst case scenario is they'll just have to override - all style names match between Scoop and ID - but the Scoop style takes precedence.

It's still the same thing, nearly.

Make sure the Paragraph and Character panels are set to their basics. Make sure your InDesign style names are exactly the same as the ones in the Scoop Plugin.

I have to say I don't know the scoop plugin.

Is it that perhaps RTF files or Word files are stored on a server and then these are links to the InDesign file?

Hmm - scoop acts as a program and plugin, I believe. I'm not overly familiar with - I'm in the art department. They do not use Word or create documents like I'd normally think. I think we've found the solution - they just need to change their scoop style back to the real definition after proofreading. The styles are exactly named the same. Thanks for your help. I'll try playing with your suggestions as the launch continues.

From what I read on Scoop is that it uses the InDesign styles, I'm not sure if it's linked to the Styles for that document or just duplicates them for the Scoop program. If they are linked to the InDesign file and they change in Scoop then it's just like changing the style in InDesign. So as you say, you probably just have to make sure that everything in Scoop is as is in InDesign.

I do get what you're talking about. I have my magazine set up the same way. I send out Word files to the authors that have the same style names in the Word file as in my InDesign file. Sometimes, when an author makes changes and sends it back, I import the file the Style I have in the Word file which would be large green for my heading 1 and large orange for my heading 2, is inputted to my InDesign file the Word style gets preference.

My write up covered the steps I took to beat this, and that's how I do it. I don't know if any of what I wrote up on helps you, but it's how I work a similar problem.

Hey, Eugene -

Turns out one of the editors had a rogue style that was causing the override - removed and the ID styles took over.

Thanks for your help.

I kinda figured there was something up at the editors end. Great you tracked down the source.
