Okay, so this post probably doesn't belong here, but I wasn't sure where it goes. I'm trying to print from SCO 3.2v4.2 to a Windows98 workstation using Alixoft WinLPR - the print job ends up as a .prn file on the workstation, but doesn't print to the attached printer. Tried several different workstations - same results. No response from Alixoft. Anyone else familiar with this software?
Thanks
Dean

What model of printer are you trying to print to? Since a prn file is being created, it sounds like the job is getting to the windows workstation.

According to the Alixoft site, the software is designed to spool to the default Windows printer unless you configure it otherwise.

What do you have configured for the default printer on the workstation?

How is the Alixoft software configured?

Is the default printer configured to output to a prn file instead of to the printer?

Is the default printer physically attached to the workstation or is it a network printer?

Does the printer use a special printer language such as postscript that is not configured on the SCO box?

I've tried printing to several printers, currently an HP deskjet. I think the problem is that from SCO I am only getting the text portion of the print job and not the "control" portion. I used software called "easyspooler" to set up the lpr/lpd printer on the unix box and am thinking that something isn't working quite right. The sad part of it is, I can manually print the file that windows receives and it prints beautifully.

I assume what you mean by "manually" printing the file is that you copy it directly to the PRN device from a DOS shell like the command below:

COPY /B filename.prn PRN

The only possible conflict on the SCO end would be translating the job into the wrong printer language, and being able to print by manually sending the PRN file to the printer rules out that problem. Your problem is not on the SCO system, it is with the WINLPR configuration on the workstation.

You need to reconfigure WINLPR to spool to the printer instead of the prn file.
