I was wondering what the major differences are in the day to day administering of SCO Unix vs Sun (Solaris)

Any ideas ?

A lot depends on versions. Unixware 7 like Solaris is a System Vr4 variant. Earlier versions of Unixware are a lot different.

A quick summary... On a day to day basis, I find very few noticeable differences between Solaris 2.6/2.7 and UnixWare 7. If you have to mess with the hardware, things are quite different, but not difficult if you know your way around Unix. I've found applications on Solaris, and the OS, to be more reliable and to give better performance.

I have a strong SCO background with a CUSA cert from SCO. I was thinking of jumping over to the SUN camp and giving it a go. I have no formal experience with Solaris. I was just wondering if my unix expericence would be portable between flavors.

Your experience is definitely portable, and that's one of the great things about Unix! Sure, if you move from one version to another, hardware related commands may be different, some commands may be in a different place, or if you move to AIX, you might just get a whole new bunch of command ;-)

If you wanted to give Solaris a try, you can get Solaris 8 for Intel or SPARC for just the cost of media and shipping direct from Sun. Check for details.
