I have installed SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a on an old Compaq ProLiant 4000. The ProLiant includes two Compaq NetFlex-2 EISA cards :
Slot 2 = IRQ 11
Slot 4 = IRQ 2/9
I haven't been able to configure the cards using :
scoadmin
-> Networks
-> Network Configuration Manager
-> Hardware
-> Add new LAN Adapter
This then offers a list of Adapters.
The nearest I can identify is "COMPAQ Integrated NetFlex-2 /ENET (motherboard chipset)". I am using EISA cards, not a MoBo integrated chipset. However, if I choose this offering I am then asked for a "Slot #" (which defaults to 8). If I press the space bar, I am asked to choose in the range from 0 to 15 - I guessed that this was the IRQ ? I chose 11.
I then selected the protocol TCP/IP and allocated a fixed IP address. I relinked the kernel, etc. No errors were reported.
I then reboot.
As the system boots I get the message :
"WARNING pnt0: 11 - device not found"
hwconfig shows :
"name=pnt base=0x1100 offset=0x12 vec=- dma=- pnt0 Ver: smp Adapter not found"

I assume that I am choosing the wrong device (motherboard chipset) for the EISA card.

Any suggestions ?

Many thanks

You don't have the original CDs of this machine ?
BTW, isn't NetFlex-2 Token Ring ?

This interface has a media module and did support either token ring or ethernet depending on how it was loaded.
I have the same box on 5.0.6. I added the EFS 5.42a to it and picked:
name=cnet base=0x5000 offset=0xF vec=11 dma=- Compaq Netelligent NIC Slot5

in netconfig I see:
*HW NetFlex-3 EISA - Slot#5,1
SCO TCP/IP
SCO NFS Runtime System
slot 5, interface 1

Thanks for the feedback.

As it happens, I do have the original Compaq CDs (somewhere !) but they were for SCO OpenServer v3, not v5 to which we subsequently upgraded. My employer has since gone to W2K on Dell and thrown out the ProLiant with OpenServer, but there you go. I still prefer OpenServer and want to maintain / enhance my skill level on it.

I will try the settings you suggest for the NetFlex card, which as you say supports Ethernet as well as Token Ring.

Again . . . thanks
