Hi

I'm a tech for school intercom system.
The school board is installing a new IP network for all there 45 school. There using 3524 Cisco switch for there IP phones.

My intercom system are connected to there PBX phone system via a co-trunk.All there pbx will be removed.

Is there a way to connect my system to those 3524 switch or any interface card that would accept those intercom system?????????????????????

Thank you

Depending on what kind of intercom system it is, valcom has units out there to do this, which directly interface via IP. Also other things you could do is have them get some FXS or FXO ports on their system to where you could interface with it.

Is this a Callmanager system?

BuckWeet

Yes they have Call manager 3.1

The FXO ports you are talking about would they be installed in the 3524 switch or they will need special equippement to hook up to it. One tech. who is installing the system told me today that he found a router to do the job but at
$5 000.00 to $6 000.00 a piece. Is there a cheaper way ?????????? The school board is turning to me to find a cheapper way.

Thanks again

Well, it would be an additional box to do this.. Depending on the intercom system, does it have to be FXO? If it can be FXS, there is a 300 dollar piece of gear called the ATA186, which can do that..

Also the tech is crazy, You could get a VG200 gateway, with some FX0 ports for probably around 2k or so, that price he gave you is crazy.

You should also check out the new valcom units. they're made to integrate into paging/intercom systems, and they interface directly with IP devices such as callmanager...

Hope this helps some.

We have a similar situation in that we have installed a cisco Ip system, callmanager 3.2, 50 7960 phones, vg200, etc and now the school wants to interface it with their overhead intercom system. We tried simply setting up an extension on one of the fxs ports on the vg200 and connecting that to the intercom amplifier, but it simply returns a busy signal when we dial that extension. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this without buying more (expensive) equipment? Thanks for your help!

Did you try FXO ports?

Thats what we've used for paging systems before..

BuckWeet

No, we haven't tried FXO ports--our system has 12
FXS ports but no FXO. I haven't checked on an expansion card yet but I'm sure it's not cheap...any other ideas? Thanks.

You might have to buy additional adjuncts for the amp to support FXS.. Depending on your current hardware, you can pic up a VIC-2FXO for few hundred, but do you have the NM-2V module?

BuckWeet

Thanks Buckweet, but we have neither. The amp is a low-end bogen with a simple tip and ring connection. Bogen says we can purchase a TAMB module from them which will work and that's about $300. Just thought there might be a simple way to configure an FXS port to work...

Digidude & Frenchmen - Are you still working on these problems?

If so I would be glad to chat with you on your specific problem and help you find a solution.

I am pretty sure the FXO line is not going to work for either of you.

If I understand your desire: You have a paging system installed with overhead speakers and you want to be able to call a specific number or set of numbers and have the transmission brodacst through the overhead speakers. I know that may sound like a stupid question but I am trying to make sure you do not want to broadcast the transmission through the speakers on the phones. Because CCM 3.1 and 3.2 do not support this feature.

Slow day at work so I was thinking about your problem with the FXS line:

The FXS line is the right way to go, since you got the busy tone or reorder tone when you tried to call, it sounds like a configuration problem:

You will need a route pattern on the CM pointing to the gateway and then a dial-peer for H.323 or MGCP setup for the gateway with the FXS connection.

Usually paging is done through FXO ports, that how I've always done it, to do it with FXS you need special gear that will accept a FXS port..

BuckWeet

I guess it could be done on FXO, I've never tried it like that.

The main thing is to have everything set up in the CCM right so that it points to the port you have connected to the paging system.

What paging systems do you use? 99% of the time, paging is done through FXO...

thanks guys for all the responses. After trying a lot of different approaches that didn't work, we went ahead and purchased the Bogen TAMB module-found a good deal on one for under 200, and now it works fine...
