The short version, ran scanreg /restore and it failed for the 24th to the 29th. After it fails it removes that entry from the menu.
I realized that I had a drive locking issue causing the operation to fail and had one for the 30th run, but the other entries are no longer available.

I know there are cab files that contain this information, what I need to know is if I can manually do this from dos or manually reference these from scanreg in dos.

Any and all help most appreciated. I have had this system on the bench WAY too long....and I am out of time to search the information out.

Have you searched for *.reg. Not sure if this is the format of the files scanreg creates automatically... For some reason, searching for r*.cab also comes to mind. If you find them, make copies somewhere safe, in case scanreg kills them after you try them. Also, what's prompting your registry problems?

rbnnn.cab in \windows\sysbckup (where nnn is number) - extract command should get contents, which is system.dat, user.dat, system.ini, win.ini.

Hmm....wolluf you may be on to something that explains a LOT.
Sysbckup folder not found anywhere on the system, and I did not notice that before.

To answer the question from Matt....this is another virus infested and damaged Win98 system...one of many I have seen of late.....

Seems like a coincidence, but there is hardware damage on this board that doesn't seem related. Don't know, this one has me stumped. I have replaced a lot of parts, and have done an overlay install of the OS. Still messing with it. Just when I thought I had it all going again, Windowsupdate goofed up the modem driver and now I am having boot problems again for seemingly no reason at all.

Will keep plugging away. Thanks for the replies!
