I partitioned the drive, activated it, and installed Windows 98. The installation went fine until I rebooted the computer and got a message that ScanReg has found errors it cannot fix, either remove some files or reinstall Windows in another directory. I've been through the procedure several times and it always happens. ScanDisks says the disk is fine, but ScanReg halts everything. Any ideas or suggestions?

Using a fresh 98 Fdisk version?
Did you delete all old in this order first?
non-dos
logical dos drives
extended partition
primary active
REBOOT (important)
Create new Primary
set it active
REBOOT again
Format C:
make sure scandisk runs

How large a drive?....very Old?
using FAT32?
other partitions on drive you're saving?
using 3rd party DDO software? such as Maxblast o EZBIOS or other for large disk suport in BIOS?

Backup All Important Data/Docs

If its a clean installation as tippy is asking you about, I've found registry errors on 98 to often be a bad motherboard... Might be a possibility.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
