scanning a barcode using a HP scanjet

Is there a piece of software or code which can be used with a VB program to decode a barcode which is on a A4 page scanned in using a flatbed scanner?

I need to capture the whole page and it would save having to scan the barcode separately

Any help would be appreciated.
