I've used PaintShop Pro 4.12 for several years. Yeah, I know there are newer versions, but I prefer the simpler user interface of version 4, I rarely need to do more than resize, crop and a few minor touchups with the clone tool.

Anyway, I recently installed PSP on a Dell GX270 running Windows 2000 with a Visioneer OneTouch 8920 USB scanner. Paintshop works just fine until I try to scan several different images. Scanning one image works fine. Two normally works okay. Sometimes I can even scan three images without a problem...but more than three scans and Paintshop shuts down immediately when the Twain software finishes transferring the data. [mad] Anything on the PSP desktop that hasn't been saved is gone.

I've tried downloading the latest scanner software and drivers and reinstalling with no success. Anybody have an idea what the problem might be?

Well the first thing I would try is turning up your virtual memory if you think that might be a problem, probably not but hey its a quick and easy idea. If that's not it then I'd try to install the scanner using generic drivers because they'd be less likely to have conflicts.

If NOTHING else works then I'd get an upgrade for PSP!

Hope this helps at least a little!

Maybe you should consider a dual operating system. I've got XP Pro and it's a real pig. It doesn't like half the apps I've got, it doesn't like the SPs, it hates IE6 and shuts it down at every opportunity ( MS must have stolen it from Apple ). I reformat/switch HDs every 4-6 months, reinstall XP every 4-6 weeks, and have 3 external HDs just to keep from losing my files. From what I read about SP2, MS doesn't know how to get its own software modules to work with each other, much less some outside package. So try an OS that they're not changing and that the app was originally configured to work with. I have 4 PCs and I'm dedicating one to my scanner and PSP ( with a few small apps ) and Avant browser, and with a new CPU ( the old one was flakey ), the operation seems to be stable enough. One other suggestion that I tried but still haven't figured out: like the buffer over-run problem, go into task manager and shut down everything that isn't absolutely necessary if you can work out what they are. Those idiots at MS have nothing better to do than pile on the manure to make you think you're getting something for your money.
