I wanna use HP ScanJet 5550c in Centos 4 Linux. However, HP does not support Linux. SANE does not support that model either.

What can I do to use such scanner? I don't wanna throw it away. Thanks.

Write your own driver?

Seriously, if the vendor doesn't support it and there is no support in linux, then you're going to have to try generic drivers.

How can I use or setup generic driver?

HP does not support Linux???
Think HP have above average Linux-support with the HPLIP-driver
Unfortionaly no Scanjets are listed in supported, nor
in unsupported devices...

Question: Does HPLIP support HP Scanjet single function scanners?

Answer: No, HPLIP only supports devices that include print functionality. For possible Scanjet drivers, visit HP SANE Drivers.
