Scandisk will not run

I have recently had a problem running scandisk. I have followed all the steps in the Microsoft article 222469, but even when I run in safe mode, I can see the scan restarting and I get up the normal message " Scandisk has restarted 10 times..........".
I can run Defrag no problem in normal mode by using CTRL+ALT+DELETE and shutting down screen saver.

Anybody help??????

I've seen this problem with ME. What I have done is boot off of a 98 boot disk, and run scandisk in DOS (you may have to copy it off of an 98 machine, depending on if that command is on your boot disk), grab lunch, and check on it later...
