How do you repair scandisk.exe? I get an error message every time Windows starts. Have done some searching on Google, but can not find the answer ,other than renaming it to scandisk.bak would this help?

Run sfc (system file checker) - if this is win98.

I have ran sfc, and Norton Utilities. I have no win98se cd to extract files from.

You might have the cab files for win98 in the c:\windows\options\cabs directory. Look there.

well i looked on this computer while my other is doing a thorough surface scan, which might help, i hope. I did find the file in cabs. thanks for your reply. will post back shortly.

ok problem solved. sometimes you have to take an extra minute to thouroughly read and analyze what your pc is trying to tell you. <psychotic bitch.> all she wanted was a thorough surface scan. error messages gone. another page in Pearls book for pc dummies.
