Hi there,
This problem has been bugging me for some time now, I have a small business server running SBS 2k3 R2 SP2, with all the latest updates etc. I have it running on an APC UPS with a RAID 1 configuration. Every night I've told it to run a complete backup of the system to a USB hard drive, there is plenty of room on the hard drive, and 9 times out of 10 it will work just great, I've had up times of 45 days out of the system with it being used extensivly.
All hardware has been put thru as many stress tests as I can think of and passed with flying colours. There are no hard drive errors (on the system or backup drive) and the RAID keeps everything in check as well. Everything runs great, except every so often it will just completely freeze, sometimes with blank screen, or with the desktop and mouse frozen.
It seems completely random as to when it will happen, and although it doesn't ALWAYS happen, when it does happen, it happens near the end of the backup procedure late at night with only a couple of gigs left to go.
So I'll go for a month with backups running fine, then one night I'll get in in the morning to find it's frozen, and requires a hard reboot. There is nothing out of the ordinary in the event logs so I cant even see what's going on, the UPS seems to be up and fine, and all other machines in the building are still running fine too.
I've read another thread about KB934016, something about com+ problems? Is this what I need to fix this issue? Or could it be something else?
