Hi

Im having a few problems trying to get our Dell DLT1 120T Autoloader to work with SBS 2003 (running on a Poweredge 6600).

Ideally, we want to use the built in SBS backup to do our scheduled backups. However, when the wizard is run to configure backups, the tape drive option is greyed out. Looking at device manager, our tape drive is listed under 'ADIC Faststor DLT Autoloader', listed 14 times, under the Medium Changers section.

Event Log is also reporting an error with the drive

'Event ID 153 - Did not match serial number "Our Serial Number" provided by "ADIC FastStor DLT Autoloader" among the list of drives.'

Can anyone help me out here?

Remove all listings for the drive from Device Manager and reboot. Verify that the drive only appears once.

Verify that the removable media service is started.

It should be noted that SBS has some problems with autoloaders.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

thanks, but tried it and got same results next time :/

I would try updating the drivers for your drive then to be sure the OS detects it correctly. The multiple entries are most likely due to the fact that it is a changer.

I hope you find this post helpful.

That was another thing I tried. Apparently, updated Dell drivers are not better than window's own drivers for the device (yawn) :/

Cheers

Found the problem. It seems that this tape drive is not compatable with the scsi card we got sent (and this was a replacement from the company we bought it from) and that, in Dell's words, 'this card/drive combo WILL damage the drive'

Replacement drive and card arriving tomorrow

So the resolution for this? Build your own friggin servers in future :D

When you get the new drive, you will need to update the firmware on it. Dell does not do that for you.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
