Ever since I got SBC Yahoo, I've had major issues with spyware. It eventually got so bad that my computer stopped running. I installed Spybot which has helped out a lot, but it still is having problem keeping the spyware off. Everytime I clean it off, the next day I see it there again. Is there anything good out there that will keep this crap off of my machine before I boot SBC to the curb???

SBC Yahoo SPYWARE

[blue]Before you got SBC Yahoo DSL, did you already have a high-speed connection? Also, are you using SBC's customized browser?[/blue] Going from dial-up to DSL is a major transition in terms of security. Unless you're running some kind of firewall (software or router-based), your PC is open to attack.
You also need to be wary of the type of websites you go to and what you choose to install.
In addition to Spybot, try Ad-aware 6. Before running a "smart scan", use the option to "check for updates" first. After the scan, quarantine all items and then delete the quarantine before rebooting.
I've subscribed to both Time Warner's Roadrunner and SBC's DSL and never had spyware issues that I couldn't control. The biggest problem you'll find is yourself and how you surf the net!!

Yes, I had Adelphia high speed internet access before Yahoo DSL and I NEVER had any problems whatsoever. It all started once I moved and had to use SBC. I have XP's firewall enabled AND I'm using a DSL router with a firewall built in. I'd say I'm pretty covered in the security aspect. Let me some it up in a short sentence....SBC is CRAP.
Well I got news for you buddy, the connection has nothing to do with it. It's all about the software you install.
If you were fine with Adelphia, then something obviously changed when you moved over to SBC:
1) [blue]You installed SBC's software[/blue]
If that's the case, then there's your problem. You don't need it. Your router can handle the connection and IE or a 3rd-party browser like Firefox should do the job nicely.
2) [blue]Your browsing habits changed[/blue]
Might want to lay off the sites full of spam and spyware-infected software.
3) [blue]You've installed Malware/Spyware[/blue]
Whether knowingly or not, this is likely you're problem.
Look, my point is that the issue has nothing to do with the connection, whether you have SBC, Roadrunner, Adelphia, Comcast, whatever... Instead, it's relies more on security settings and bad habits! That "CRAP" as you put it doesn't just walk itself in there and install on its own, especially if you're quote:

I have to agree with cdogg. I have had SBC DSL for years and have never had a spyware problem, at least not one related to SBC. I would guess that you installed SBC's software which is required for the initial account setup. But once your account is set up you can use your router to handle the PPPoE and uninstall the SBC software. Once you completely uninstall the software then run spybot and Adaware 6 (be sure to check for updates first). This should take care of any possible SBC-related spyware issues. If you still have issues then most likely it is not an SBC-related issue per se but some other spyware/malware/adware you picked up that may have coincided with your SBC install.
Also XP's firewall is garbage , disable and download Zonealarm or Sygate or an equivalent for your firewall . With a good firewall and Spybot and adaware it should take of almost anything . also make sure you have a good AV whether it be free or paid for and keep it up to date .
My advice to everyone that has highspeed, DO NOT INSTALL ANY OF THE ISP'S SOFTWARE that comes with the dsl modem, I use qwest dsl with msn premium.
When I switched from earthlink dial up to dsl, I installed the software that came with the modem, I surf just as I did with dial up, but as soon as I finished installing the software, and started internet explorer, the home page (google) displayed, but within seconds several popups appeared (containing porn), so I uninstalled the dsl software, ran 'hijackthis', then 'ad-aware' then 'spybot search and destroy' and guess what I found?, something had hijacked internet explorers HBO, and was displaying random popups.
Since I uninstalled the software, and cleaned the system, I've had no problems at all with surfing the web.
