saving passwords

I have windows XP on my computer and have microsoft outlook on there as well and when I try to download emails from my email account it keeps asking me for my password, each time I click the save password box but the next time I go back to Outlook it hasn't saved it. Is there some setting that I can change to get it to save my password?
