I perform data entry into a table that contains some fields that will probably have the same value through several records. How do I avoid re-typing the information for those fields by having the value automatically entered into the field of the new record?

This is called the default value and you can set it either in the table wher the data is heading or in the text or combo or list box on your data entry form. Search help for default value. Gord

Thanks for the suggestion, but, I think I may not have explained my problem clearly. The information for the table is provided from reports filled out by other employees. The information provided by one employee may be duplicated several times. To keep from re-entering this information into each new record, I'm looking for a way to store the value for reuse.

Depending on the type of information you're storing: I'll guess here, "because the dog ate it.", "I was too busy playing on the internet", what ever... if it is repetitious it should be added to a table. You should be selecting these results from a combo box based on that table. If you start up a table with an AutoNumber "InfoID" and one text Field "EmployeeInfo" (Text up to 255 characters). The Autonumber should be set to no duplicates (obvious) but as well, set the text field to no dups. Add a few of your favorites to the table to get started.

You now need to tie this table to your first by adding an InfoID field (long Integer)
Now build the combo. I suggest using the wizard and hide the infoID field.
You'll have to add some code due to the hidden first column means that limit to list must be true. Contact me directly when you've gotten this far.

You may find Candace Tripp's Autofill database example helpful. It can be found here: ftp://athree.com/pub/candace/access_downloads.htm
