Saved downloaded files alway "jpg" 1

In trying to save a downloaded file, I noticed the computer always defaults to sticking a "jpg" at the end of the file, instead to going to "all files" and not adding anything. The computer saves the file and then can't recognize it, unless I manually change the suffix before saving. How do I fix this?

Go to Doug Knox's site:

Then choose XP Fixes, then File Association Fixes.

You may have to repair more than one association.
