sorry just in case someone knows save me having to test

we have sites that have their own domain for shares etc but get their mail from a centralised exchange system - no trusts or anything

before when running outlook 97 or 2000 the setup account in outlook and then they could change their passwords as and when - they have upgraded to 2003 and now they are not allowed to change pwd

they can cx over owa but not from outlook - any ideas?

they could change their passwords as and when

Huh?

Please describe your setup better and rephrase your question.

I hope you find this post helpful.

ok

standard user logs in to a domain at their place of work. this is a local domain with no trust to any other domains etc. the person's mail account is in a centralised domain - they access their mail by setting the account details inside outlook and this point to that domain. when a user changes their local domain password then next time in outlook they just changed their mail password (there are legacy reason's for this setup - it is rigid - will not change in our lifetimes) - .

the above was fine when they used outllok 97 or 2000. but it doesnt work when they use 2003. ie they can login to their mail ok but they cannot change their outlook password from inside outlook - they can over owa ok.

any thoughts - i assume it's a kerberos issue (dont think 97 or 2000 used this) and that it is due to them not being in the forest. is there a tweak or something that i can apply to remedy this.

Dude you have a weird ass setup going on there.

good luck with it.

So you have two forests then?

the users still use nt domains.

126 individual ones.
cenralised 2003 for mail

Sorry I'm done. That is a rather important detail to leave out.

NT4 is so far beyond its lifetime. Encourage your employer to get on a supportable system.

the nt isnt really part of the equation - it's irrelvant

all i need to know is if a pc uses outlook 2003 and is not in the domain that hosts the exchange - why cant they change their password - i am assuming it's a kerberos issue and that it has a problem contacting the pdc emulator - i assume

i will wait and see if i get some time and test

side note : - the nt is for a crucial app for these sites - it's legacy but the only thing they are bothered about. the supplier of this aint the quickest shall we say - it will go in a few months

The only suggestion I can make is to configure your Exchange users for Outlook over HTTP.

I hope you find this post helpful.
