save icon grey out

When I save a file the save icon turns grey and does not return to its original state. Without properly saving the file I cannot access the extension I need to use. I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004.

Yes, I can make a change and the icon returns to its original state. However, once saved it stays grey until I make another change. This is occuring on every page of the web site.

That's pretty much what it is supposed to do. You can't save it with the button if no changes were made since the last save.
Am I missing the point here?

The problem is that the file is either in a state of unsaved (icon in its normal state) or saved (with the save icon is grey). I need the file saved AND the icon in its normal state. If not, I cannot use the extentions I need. Let me explain: I am working on a form with the form2mail extension. Before I can use the extension the file must be saved. When I save the file the icon stays grey and I cannot access the extension. If I make a change of any sort the icon goes to its original state, but I have not yet saved the file. As soon as I save the file the icon goes AND stays grey and I cannot access the form2mail extension. This occurs with all the files regardless of what I am trying to do.
