SAP Mobile Hand Helds

Having recently joined your interesting forum which contains a wealth of knowledge, I was wondering if anyone can answer me a few questions.

I'm looking at using a pocket PC type device to display a graphical representation of the SAP module.

With Regards to connecting a handheld to SAP some form of middleware is required which converts the Graphics to Text. Therefore Am I right in assuming that you cannot get a graphical display of the SAP module on the device itself unless the end user for instance adopts WEBConsol?

If WEB consul is adopted, on the terminal itself you will need to install some sort of browsing mechanism to "browse" the application.

DO you still need SAP consol if you want a GUI on the Hand held Pocket pc device?

Would you further require a telnet such as GSW? In such a setup.

All In all what I’m after understanding is what are the physical components required to connect an RF Pocket PC to SAP......SO that the end user can see a graphical screen rather than a Text screen.

SAP withdrew the terminology WEBConsole and now calls it WEB Enabled RF Transactions. It is still part of the SAPGui install and is an integral part of their wireless strategy. This WEB translator exists on the same level as SAPConsole and will translate SAP screens into HTML that can be viewed with the regular browser that ships with CE or Pocket PC devices.

You can also still use SAPconsole to emulate SAP transactions on a graphical device - you can install a graphical Telnet client from

http://www.naturtek.com

on the handheld device.

You can also use the existing ITS on older releases of SAP (3.1 - 4.5) to develop WEB enabled screens for existing SAP transactions. In newer releases of SAP (4.6 - Enterprise) you can use the WEB Application Server and Business Pages for the same purpose. All you need on the handheld device is the web browser that ships with the product to access the WEB server to run the WEB enabled SAP transactions.

Coming in Enterprise release, SAP will make a new technology available called Mobile Engine that will allow you to create applications for disconnected or batch mode use for handheld devices.

This is all part of SAP's new NetWeaver strategy....
