SAN Option Issue

Anyone using the SAN Option for backup and restore? We have an issue where when we do a restore to a server via the SAN option it causes lag to all the systems on the SAN. When we present the LUN to the media server and do a direct restore this is not affected.

Yes I use it and have worked with many clients using it. Never came across this.

So only restore causes it and backup does not? Whats different?

The SAN Option is used to setup multiple ARCserve server to share one library. What do you mean by restore via the SAN option? there is no restore in the SAN Option.

I don't know what you mean by media server? Do you mean that you are by passing the switch?

After further research, it looks like the restore via the switch faber to the san storage is so fast that it is causing contention on the san. Not sure why HP would recommend a MSL2024 tape library for a SAN that could not handle one restore job. Right now we have to do san restores on weekends during low utilization or across the network to slow the backup down.
